The Romanian policemen who are taking part in the UN mission of maintaining peace in Haiti (MINUSTAH) have not been harmed by the Tuesday night earthquake that recorded 7 grades on the Richter scale, the Romanian Interior Ministry (MAI) announces in a press report.
MAI has 21 police officers in Haiti, who have been carrying out peace keeping actions since 2006. According to AFT, many UN employees are missing after the UN headquarter in Haiti was destroyed by the earthquake. Edmond Mulet, UN peace keeping missions vice-manager, declared that 200-250 people were working in the building, but said that there should have been less staff in the building at the moment of the tremor because the working schedule was over.
A powerful seismic activity of 7.0 magnitude on the Richter scale took place in Haiti, in Port-au-Prince capital. The epicentre was found to be 15 kilometres S-W of Port-au-Prince, 10 kilometres deep under ground.
