Romania remains a transit route for heroine traffic towards Western Europe – a UN report

HotNews.ro

Romania remains a transit route used by dealers who transport heroine from Afghanistan towards Western Europe, according to the UN report while numerous presumed Romanian traffickers were arrested in Spain and Italy.

According to the report, quoted by Mediafax, Romania and Bulgaria, Serbia, Macedonia and Croatia are the main transit routes used by dealers to transport heroine towards the West. The quantity transported annually on this route – about 55 to 60 tons – is for Germany and Netherlands. From here, the heroine is transported to bigger markets like France, Great Britain and Spain.

In 2008, in Spain, 100 Romanians were arrested, suspected of cocaine traffic and represented 1 percent of the total number of traffic dealers from this country. In Italy, in 2008, 98 Romanians were arrested for the same reason.
