Romanian mayor paraded on the catwalk in a Nazi officer costume. The Centre for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism in Romania: The mayor has broken the law
The Centre for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism in Romania informed Romania’s General Attorney, Laura Codruta Kovesi, that Radu Mazare, mayor of Constanta (South-East Romania) has broken the law and instigated a child to follow his example, „educating him to treat the current law with contempt”.
On Sunday evening in Mamaia, Constanta, the county’s mayor Radu Mazare paraded on the catwalk in front of a numerous public gathered to see the fashion show costumed as a Nazi officer. He brought along his son, wearing a similar suit.
The head of the Centre for Monitoring and Combating Anti-Semitism in Romania, Maximilian Katz, sent an intimation to Romania’s General Attorney, in which he notes that Mr. Mazare is somebody employed by the state and therefore he not only has the duty of respecting the state’s laws, but to actually see that they are implemented.
The intimation warns that this could lead to some people believing that to wear Nazi uniforms and „march at a goose’s pace is legal and even fashionable in Romania. Mr. Radu Mazare involving his son in this event is an act of civic irresponsibility that needs to be treated as such”. The letter urged Romania’s General Attorney to take the necessary measures.
