Romanian diplomat Silviu Ionescu was driving the car involved in the accident that killed a 30-year old man on the night of December 15 2009. This is the conclusion of the Singapore Police investigation, according to StraitsTimes.com. Romanian Embassy’s charge d’affaires in Singapore returned to Romania shortly after the accident and presented his own version: the Romanian Embassy’s car, involved in the accident, was allegedly stolen right before that night; therefore he could not have been driving the car.
In the night of December 15, 2009, a car belonging to the Romanian Embassy in Singapore hit three pedestrians around 3:10 am. One of the injured, a 30-year old man, suffered serus wounds and died on Christmas day.
Romanian Embassy to Singapore charge d’affaires Silviu Ionescu claimed immediately after the accident that the car had been stolen and that he was not driving the car at the moment of the accident. Silviu Ionescu returned to Romania a short while after the tragedy and in the beginning of the 2010 he was called back from his role to „support the investigation carried out by the authorities in Bucharest”.
After the accident on December 15, the Romanian Embassy’s car, namely an Audi A6, was found abandoned at the outskirts of Singapore’s capital. But the local Police decided that the car has not been stolen.
