In Bucharest, the crisis had a positive effect as 1 billion euro investments in real estate were abandoned, leaving Bucharest greener. 50 years since he left Romania, composer Vladimir Cosma makes a first step towards the country, with a concert at the Romanian Embassy to Paris. Elsewhere in the news, the attitude of the gypsy community seems to improve.

Gandul reads about a positive impact of the crisis, for a change: Bucharest became greener as 1 billion euro investments in real estate were abandoned due to the crisis. The economic crisis has saved for now, some Bucharest parks from being transformed into office buildings. In almost every city park, investors announced a real estate project.

Thus in the Operei park, the crisis prevented investors to build a three storey hotel on 1.5 acres of land, a gym and a tennis court. In IOR park, the city hall returned about 12 acres to the owners and investors should have built there a mall and apartments.

Another real estate project of apartments was ceased in Tei Toboc park where the whole surface of the park was returned to the owners. Real estate projects were also announced for Circului Park where investors planned a 19 storey building for offices.

Famous Romanian composer Vladimir Cosma, who entered the French cultural patrimony with his music used in over 300 successful movies walks for the first time in 50 years on a Romanian scene, at the Romanian Embassy to Paris, Evenimentul Zilei reads.

Cosma left Romania back in 1963 and did not return since, not even after the revolution. His concert at the Embassy is, the newspaper reads, a first step towards Romania as Cosma is currently negotiating with the Bucharest Philharmonics to give a concert in July 2011.

At 70 years old, Cosma is one of the most popular movie music composers in France.

Romania libera reads that the attitude of the Rroma community has seen some improvement as they seem to appreciate education more: in 1990, about 109,000 gypsies were registered in schools in Romania while currently, there are 238,000 to 260,000.

A survey conducted by Gallup reveals that about 1,420 Rroma students were registered in 2006 to occupy the special places at universities, four times more students than back in 2000. However, marriage among minors in the community is still a recurrent tradition and the recent example is the 10 year old gypsy who gave birth in Spain.
