Evenimentul Zilei reads that Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu visited Britain on Wednesday, meeting his British counterpart in an attempt to ease up the criteria limiting Romanian workers to migrate there. However, the meeting proved useless since Gordon Brown clearly said that the British stand would remain unchanged.
Brown added that his country fully respected the European Union standards in this regard. The British Government announced by the end of October that the limits imposed on Romanian and Bulgarian workers would be extended to 2008.
Tariceanu extensively discussed both with Gordon Brown and British MPs about the conditions Romanians need to fulfill to enter the labor market. He argued that the s restrictions favor the black market and indirectly affect Britain more.
Some British parliamentarians fully agreed with PM Tariceanu but declared that Romania needed to better its foreign image if it wished more benefits from the British market.
Papers like the Financial Times, The Daily Telegraph or The Economist deal with the lack of workforce force on Romania’s own internal market. Tariceanu during his visit tried to convince British authorities that Romania does not pose any immediate threat, as its economy develops rapidly and unemployment rates have fallen, Financial Times reads.
Meanwhile, Romanian investors are summoned to enter the Cuban market, Adevarul reads.
Cuban deputy Foreign minister Emilio Cabaliero Rodrigues said during his visit in Romania that Cuba lacked Romanian investments. Moreover, he called for more cooperation among Romanian and Cuban authorities.
In an interview for Adevarul, Rodrigues said that he received favorable signals for a possible future collaboration. Rodrigues declared that Cuban authorities wished to revive the historical economic relationship among the two countries.
Rodrigues visited Romania as part of an extensive tour to promote Cuba in Europe. He visited Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, Bulgaria and Romania and plans to meet officials in Russia, Kazakhstan and France. .
