Romania draws European Parliament attention again with riot police violence
The plenary of the European Parliament will organise a debate in early October on the violence that flared at the massive anti-government protest in Bucharest on August 10 this year. The initiative of the debate belongs to the Greens, who have also called for a debate in February on the changes the governing coalition in Bucharest applied to the laws of justice.
A Romanian Liberal MP, Daniel Buda, told HotNews.ro that the Greens proposal was unanimously accepted.
Massive protests organised by Romanians living abroad were organised in Bucharest on August 10. They were dissipated by violent actions of the riot police, who acted in a disproportionate and indiscriminate manner to attacks by a small number of violent protesters. Dozens of people were injured in the riot police actions.
Despite that, protests continued in the following days against the governing Social Democrats (PSD).
