Intelligence Services chief: Chances for threat remains low in Romania, but risk shouldn't be neglected
„The chance for a threat remains low, but we don’t have to neglect such risks. Prevention remains our fundamental target”, Romanian Intelligence Services (SRI) head George Maior declared on Wednesday, during the annual report, according to Mediafax. Maior talked about the fact that Romania will host missile shield elements. He said SRI was preparing to respond to espionage. As for terrorism, he claims there are accentuated forms of radicalism and proselytes.
Currency vulnerable aspects of the economic and public administration sectors overlap a variation in organised crime forms and groups, with implications in important risk areas, ranging from proliferation to illegal migration and grand fiscal fraud. The economic security, especially the risks in the energy department, constitutes one of SRI’s major priorities. It is important to be prepared to respond to espionage and information aggression, most notably from the perspective of certain strategic operations at a Euro-Atlantic level. By this I mean especially the developments connected with the missile shield which will be placed in Romania”, the SRI leader says.
SRI’s manager added that there was a series of risks involved, for which the Intelligence services do not have to provide the necessary expertise, but their importance was not to be underestimated – ecologic risks, pandemics, regional development imbalances.
