Romanian Senate Speaker on PD-L attempts to revoke him from his role: It's Star Wars, episode II
„My colleagues’ persistence in their obsession to replace me is proof of minimum political decency. Is Star Wars, episode II”, Mircea Geoana declared on Tuesday, March 16, the day the Senate’s permanent Office rejected, for the second time, PDL’s request that PDL’s appeal to revoke the Senate’s speaker from his role be included on the day’s agenda.
Plus, Mircea Geoana (PSD) claims that the dismissal appeal that PDL tried to include on the Senate’s Tuesday agenda has another initiator and, partially, other signatures than a week ago. According to him, such a request can only be submitted once during a parliamentary session.
„The Senate’s regulation says that a revocation request is only carried out once in a parliamentary session. The request submitted today for my dismissal is also signed by other persons than the one from last week, so from my point of view we’re talking about a second revocation request. (…) Since it is a new dismissal request, we wait for them to bring the request in the autumn’s session”, Mircea Geoana stated.
„If those in PD-L persist with this request, they will take full responsibility for blocking the Senate’s activity. Notifying CCR regarding this dismissal request is one version we’re currently taking into consideration. There was an attempt to change Mr. Vacaroiu in 2005 in a situation identical with the one today”, the ex-PSD leader added. He concluded by suggesting there are various interests behind the attempt to replace him.
