Romanian President: We want to attract Kazakhstan in Europe gas transit project
Romanian President Traian Basescu declared on Tuesday, March 2 2010, on leaving to Kazakhstan, that one of the aims of the visit is to attract this country into gas projects involving Romania, like PEOP and the project regarding gas transit to Europe, Romanian news agency Mediafax informs.
According to the Romanian chief of state, one of the visit’s main objects is to attract Kazakhstan in the tri-lateral project Romania-Azerbaijan-Georgia meant to bring gas to Europe. This entails building a liquid gas terminal in Constanta (South-East Romania). Plus, Romania aims to attract Kazakhstan in the PEOP project.
The President mentioned that he was going to meet with energy companies’ reps in Kazakhstan, like KazMunaiGaz and Rominserv Kazakhstan. According to him, economic cooperation agreements, Justice agreements, investment protection, tourism and statistical agreements will be signed.
During his two-day visit to Kazakhstan, Traian Basescu is scheduled to meet his homologue Nursultan Nazarbaev, and the Parliament’s Speaker U.B. Mukhamedjanov. Traian Basescu’s delegation includes Economy minister Adriean Videanu, defence minister Gabriel Oprea and Foreign minister Teodor Baconschi. Traian Basescu will return to Romania on Wednesday evening.
