Incumbent President Basescu urges Romanians living in Moldova to vote
Romanian incumbent President Traian Basescu urged Romanians living in Moldova to vote on November 22, 2009, in the 13 constituencies opened there in an official letter in which lists all actions to sustain Chisinau. The letter reads that he expects them to opt for the reformation of the country and he expressed his hope that he will meet Moldova in the Union.
In the letter he lists his support for Moldova: he attempted to strengthen bilateral relations and made his first foreign visit to Moldova. Another achievement listed is that he urged Romanian authorities to reform citizenship requirements and he underlines that during his meetings with EU officials, he sustained Moldova’s integration to the EU.
Other achievements the letter marks include the increase of the number of scholarships for students coming from Moldova and their rights to receive citizenship. In the end, the letter ends with Basescu’s engagement to sustain the ideals of Romanians, wherever they are.
