In a survey run by the Social Research Office (BCS), Romanian incumbent president Traian Basescu continues to be the electorate’s preferred candidate for presidency, but he fell below the 40% psychological thin red line, a percentage he was used to when it came to surveys. If presidential elections were t be held this Sunday, the current president would get 35.4%. He would be followed by liberal Crin Antonescu, credited with 21.5% of the votes, and social-democratic candidate Mircea Geoana, with 19.1%, the survey shows.

The top three candidates are followed by Corneliu Vadim Tudor (Romania Mare Party) – credited with 7.9% of the vote intentions, Sorin Oprescu – 5.4% (despite the fact that Bucharest’s general mayor did not announce his intntion to run for Cotroceni), Kelemen Hunor from the Hungarian party (UDMR) – 5% and Radu Duda (independent) – 4.7%.

BCS put together a top of the least liked Government members. According to the answers, Romanian PM Emil Boc is the most disliked character in the Government, nominated by 16.7% of the interviewees. He is followed by Monica Iacob Ridzi – 14.1%, and by the Transport minister, Elena Udrea – 10.9%.

The BCS survey took place from July 9 to 16 and it involved 1,069 people, aged over 18. Its error margin is +/-3%.
