HotNews.ro

The health network supervising contagious diseases tracked 10 new swine flu infection cases. Most of the patients are people who travelled abroad.

Cantacuzino Institute, the reference lab for AH1N1 tests, confirmed two new infections on July 18 and 19. One of the patients is a 29-year old man from Cernica, who travelled from Bulgaria on July 12. The second case is a 36-year old man from Bucharest, who arrived from Spain on July 16. Both patients are currently hospitalised with Matei Bals Institute.

On July 20, Cantacuzno Institute tested other eight persons positive for AH1N1. The patients travelled abroad as well, in countries where the virus is highly transmitted:

  • England: 4 cases – 3 children of 11, 13 and 14 years of age, who were hosted in two different camps; and a 30-year old woman, who went to England as tourist;
  • Spain: 3 cases – one 11-year old, who was there for his family holiday; and two young women – of 24 and 37 years of age, who went to Spain as tourists;
  • France and Spain – one case – a young girl, 18 years old, who went in a trip through Europe, visiting Greece, Switzerland, France and Spain.

Except the 14-year old child, the rest of the patients are currently hospitalised at the National Institute for Contagious Diseases „Matei Bals” from Bucharest, receiving specific medication. The child suffers of a respiratory disease and has been isolated in his home, under his father strict supervision. His father happens to be a paediatric doctor.

There are currently 69 swine flu cases recorded in Romania.
