The Hungarian Parliament designated on Tuesday Gordon Bajnai, ex-Economy minister as the new Prime Minister of the country, replacing Socialist Ferenc Gyurcsany who resigned last month, AFP informs.

The Parliament passed a constructive censure motion, meant to install the new PM, proposed by the governing Socialist Party and replace Ferenc Gyurcsany. The procedure was used to avoid preliminary elections.

The so called constructive motion censure against the former PM passed by 204 votes of a total of 386 Deputies. No one voted against the motion but there were abstains. The Socialist leader, Gyurcsany lead the government since 2004 and became a minority government in 2008 when the Democrat Liberals withdrew from power. Gyurcsany announced his resignation on March 21 and proposed the formation of a new government under a new PM, more able to pull the country out of the crisis.
