CEE central banks concerned about comments on stability of regional banking

HotNews.ro

Six central banks in Eastern and Central Europe, members of the EU, expressed their concern on Wednesday regarding the warnings and speculations on the risks Western banks would face due to investments in the region, Romanian news agency Mediafax informs.

In a common position signed by the central banks of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria, the institutions declare that such comments could prejudice regional banks and economies. Public comments regarding the exposure of Western banks to Eastern and Central European markets undermine the efforts of the central banks to maintain stability, the release reads.

It also reads that published information is often oversimplified and unrealistic but can have a negative impact on banks operating in these countries. The document reads that each country is undergoing a different situation and that the region cannot be characterized as homogeneous.
