Microsoft on Romania: a healthy economy with IT bankruptcies caused by political and local economic decisions
Financial markets continue to remain very fragile and for sure many budgets will continue to go down but this moment is a great opportunity for innovative technologies to prove their efficiency, Microsoft Operational Director Kevin Turner has declared. He added that Romania’s economy was very healthy with a pace of growth of 9%. Microsoft Marketing Director Dan Bulucea added, referring to the massive number of bankruptcies in the IT sector, that this situation was caused more by political and local economic decisions rather than by the global crisis.
Microsoft expects to increase its personnel and partners in Romania. The company officially launched a program that offers students in Romania free access to Microsoft software. The program, DreamSpark was launched in Romania in partnership with some local universities.
However, Microsoft plans to launch a similar project globally, with programs for small and medium sized enterprises for an annual fee of 100 dollars. According to Turner, the company invested some 7.1 billion dollars in research and development last year alone.
