Romania's National Judges Union challenge deputies' vote on high corruption cases

HotNews.ro

Romania’s National Judges Union submitted a written complaint on Monday challenging the vote cast in the House of Deputies that rejected the investigation of high corruption cases involving politicians Adrian Nastase and Miron Mitrea. The Union declared that the House breached the separation of powers principle and threatens to sue the institution if the vote cast on August 13 will not be voided.

The main argument brought forward by the Union is the fact that the Judicial Committee of the House analyzed all evidence prior to the vote and recommended the House not to approve the investigation. Thus, the Union considers that the vote has been compromised once the Committee made its recommendation.

The Union threatens that if their complaint is not solved, they will sue the institution. Moreover, Union representatives declared for HotNews.ro that they will urge the Constitutional Court to outline the constitutional conflict made in this case.
