Dacia sales in France grow 40% during the first 8 months

Romanian company Dacia, owned by Renault, sold over 28,000 units in France since the beginning of 2008, 40.5% more than during the first 8 months in 2007, data at the French Automobile Constructors Committee indicate. The Romanian brand has 2% of the market, compared to 1.5% in 2007. The French car market dropped 7% in august, with Mercedes leading in the losses (-24%).

During the first eight months of the year, the French bought 1.41 million cars, 2.9% more than in January – August 2007. Dacia sales increased 40%, while Renault won 4%. Important growth was noted also at Fiat (47%) and Nissan (37%). The most important losses were recorded by Mercedes (-15%) and Hyundai (-21%).

French brands dominate the market with 52.7% of the sale. Renault leads with 22%, followed by Peugeot with 17% and Citroen with 14%.
