Romania local elections: turnout of 7.02% nationwide by 10 a.m.

Only 7.02% of Romanians showed up and voted by 10 a.m. in the Sunday local elections taking place across the country. According to a spokesman of the Central Electoral Office, turnout in urban areas stood at 5.22% and in rural areas reached 9.96%. The Bucharest Electoral Office announced 3.91% of the citizens of the capital city showed up and voted by 10 a.m. Turnout at country level by 10 a.m. in the first round of elections on June 1 reached 7.01% nationwide and 4.05% in Bucharest.

Turnout in 22 counties was above the national average, with the highest rate in the counties of Ilfov (16.14%), Dolj (13.59%) and Teleorman (12.77%) and the lowest in the counties of Hunedoara, Bistrita Nasaud and Satu Mare (4.42%, 4.49% and 4.74% respectively).

In Bucharest, the highest turnout was reported in District 1 (4.93%) and the lowest in District 3 (3.17%).
