European states reach agreement on illegal immigrants
European Parliament’s negotiators, together with representatives of the 27 member states and those of the European Commission finally reached an agreement after four hours of heated debates on a draft legislation regulating the repatriation of illegal immigrants across the Union. Informal sources quoted by France Presse said that the maximum detention time an illegal immigrant can get is 6 months, with some exceptions.
Slovenian Interior Minister Dragutin Mate said that negotiations were a success but refused to offer more details. German European Parliamentary, Manfred Weber declared that the EP pushed for a series of guarantees since the 27 member states want practical regulations to repatriate illegal immigrants. In his opinion, the document does not discriminate against illegal immigrants, but seeks to resolve their situation: either to legalize their situation in the country or expatriate them.
The document was on the official agenda for three years now and finally, a consensus was reached.
