Dacia workers in street protest on Thursday
Some 5000 Dacia Automobile trade union members organized a protest downtown Pitesti as their strike for higher salaries continued on Thursday. The protest lasted three hours and ended at about 1pm. The protest was organized as yesterday, a local court ruled that the general strike was legal, despite claims by Dacia Renault representatives that it was not so. Dacia management representatives declared they will appeal the decision.
Dacia’s union members entered a general strike three weeks ago and this has become the longest strike ever organized at Dacia. Moreover, protesters say that they will go on with the strike since they have the financial support of their French counterparts.
On Tuesday, Dacia representatives offered the first salary increase proposal at the negotiation table. However, protesters are not satisfied with the proposition and declared they will continue the strike until their demands are met.
