Romanians in Rome – immigrants with most enterprises

In Italy, the fourth Osservatorio Romano statistical report was to be published on Thursday, March 13, tackling the immigration phenomenon in Romane and Provincia di Roma. The event is promoted by Caritas-Migrantes in Italy, together will the Chamber of Commerce, Rome’s City Hall and the province of Rome. HotNews.ro was able to get an advance look into the data regarding Romanians in Rome.

In 2007, Romanians maintained a key role as main actors of the Rome Statistics File, just like in 2006. There are over 60 000 Romanians officially registered in Rome. The report shows that last year the number of Romanians in Italy grew by 16.4%. As compared to 2003, the presence of Romanians doubled.

The number of legally registered Romanians in Rome at least doubled: if in 2003, there were 29,747 in 2007 the number reached 62,020. Unlike national groups, concentrated in downtown Rome, Romanians prefer to live in smaller towns in the hinterland of Rome like Fiumicino, Tivoli, Pomezia, where household prices are lower.

According to the report, Romanians are among the most active national groups on the Italian labor market. According to the Chamber of Commerce data, in the Lazio region, in 2007, there were some 14,227 entrepreneurs, out of which some 2 272 are Romanian, closely followed by immigrants Bangladesh and China.
