Romanian youngster accused of having stabbed teen in Hungary cannot be arrested
A 12 year old boy originating from Romania is accused of having stabbed a 15 year old teenager in an attempt to rob him in Budapest, Romanian television Antena 3 informs. The victim was hospitalized with severe injuries and the attacker retained by the police. However, the aggressor was released in the same day because the Hungarian law does not allow underaged people of foreign citizenship to be arrested.
Police officers say that the boy moved to Hungary together with his parents. The whole family lives on the streets and survives due to the boy’s stealing.
Romanian Consul to Budapest Marian Ursut told Radio Romania Actualitati that Romania’s Ambassador to Hungary would push forward all the necessary documents in order to repatriate the boy after social workers got the parental approval.
Meanwhile Hungary’s Justice Ministry officials study the possibility to set up a system that will allow the police to charge and detain minors.
