False bomb alarm at Romanian Presidential HQ

The 112 emergency call service (similar to America’s 911 service) for the county of Teleorman in Southern Romania received a call on Tuesday warning about the presence of a bomb at the Cotroceni Palace, the headquarters of the Romanian Presidency in Bucharest.

The voice of the caller seemed to be a child’s and security services spokesman Bogdan Onea said shortly afterwards that checks proved it was a false alarm.

The Presidential Administration said employees were not evacuated from offices following the call and that the situation was calm.

Such threats are a criminal offence in Romania and authors risk sentences 3 to 12 years if caught. If the author is a child then parents risks fines.
