Romanian tailor sues government over postponement of EU elections

A tailor from the eastern Romanian city of Galati claims her civil rights were breached when PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu decided to postpone national-wide elections for the European Parliament from May this year to the second half of 2007.

Manuela Golimba, a tailor, says she “would have have different life” had the elections occurred at the term set initially, the NewsIn press agency reports.

The tailor submitted a request at the Galati Appeals Court on March 16 urgint it to establish that the governmental ordinance postponing the elections was illegal.

The Government asked the court on Tuesday to move the case to Bucharest. The request will have its verdict on May 4, at the High Court of Justice in the Romanian capital.
