Another Romanian military died in mission in Afghanistan
Romania caporal Catalin Ionel Marinescu, part of the Battalion 26 Infantry Neagoe Basarab passed away on Tuesday, May 10 around 6 AM in Kabul province, Afghanistan a press release of the Romanian Defense ministry reads. The caporal was part of a patrolling mission on A1 highway when his convoy was attacked by an improvised explosive device and in the attack the Romanian was severely injured.
He was urgently transported with a MEDEVAC helicopter at the military hospital in Lagman for medical aid. However, caporal Marinescu passed away at 28 years old. He was not married. Romania’s Defense minister Gabriel Oprea named caporal Catalin Ionel Marinescu, post-mortem, second lieutenant.
Moreover, the minister forwarded a proposal to the President for the decoration, post mortem of Catalin Ionel Marinescu with the National Order Romania’s Star for militaries.
