Artists publishing on Wikipedia will be paid – Romanians and Indians targeted

HotNews.ro

The foundation running the online Wikipedia encyclopedia recently decided to offer its contributors a small sum for article publishing, according to online publication The Tech. The financial payment is not offered to the thousands of people editing Wikipedia’s pages but only to the artists creating essential images for the website. The money come from a 20,000 USD donation.

MIT associate Philip G. Greenspun, who said he made the donation with Romanian and Indian artists in mind, says that online books can increase their quality through professional illustrations.

Team leader Briana Laugher, in charge with Wikipedia project says that her intention is to create a list with the articles needing such illustrations.

Some 50 illustrations are estimated to be listed by the end of the month. The contributor will have two weeks to finish an illustration and if accepted, will receive 40 dollars.
