HotNews.ro

The designated Prime Minister Lucian Croitoru was rejected after the voting in the Parliament, with 189 votes in favour and 250 against. In this context, The Boc Cabinet II remains as substitute. Romania’s President Traian Basescu is expected to either designate another PM or to extend Boc Government’s temporary mandate.

PSD leader Mircea Geoana declared that the opposition’s proposal of naming Klaus Johannis as Prime Minister will be readdressed to the President. Before the voting, PD-L announced that the party would support Lucian Croitoru, while PSD, PNL and UDMR said the parties would vote against his proposals for the ministerial roles. There are 471 senators and deputies and to pass a vote, a proposal needs 50% +1.

Lucian Croitoru after the Parliament’s decisions:

  • My mission ends with the vote.
  • I have chosen the best government there was.
  • The trend should continue on fulfilling the engagements Romania has with the IMF, EU and the World Bank. The money will be released according to these engagements.
  • I will return to the Central Bank, of course, (…) I am the governor’s councillor for monetary policy.
  • Technically, I don’t think it is possible for the budget to be adopted unless there is a new government.
