Javier Solana, chief of foreign policy for the European Union, said he was “very concerned” about the situation. He said that election observers had reported that the April 5 polls met many international standards, but that there had still been “undue administrative interference” and a lack of public confidence, New York Times reports.

„EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana urged protesters against a Communist election victory in Moldova to avoid violence on Tuesday, but encouraged authorities to let peaceful demonstrations go ahead”, Reuters adds, as quoted by Kyiv Post.

Russia also expressed its deepest concern on the situation, the Interfax news agency reports, quoting a statement made by the Russian Foreign Minister, Grigori Karasin.
