European Commission: it is premature to comment new Italian law on migrants

HotNews.ro

The European Commission believes it is still premature to present an opinion regarding a bill adopted by the Italian government on Wednesday, allowing for easier procedures to expel troubling migrants, according to the press officer of the Justice, Civil Liberties and Security Directorate of the EC, Ricardo Mosca, quoted by Romanian news agency NewsIn.

The European official however invoked an article from a European directive that gives member states the right to restrain the freedom of movement to Union citizens on grounds related to security, public policy and public health.

Another point that could rest in favor of the Italian authorities is the financial one: any person that cannot sustain themselves financially can be expelled to their country of origin, according to Mosca.
