HotNews.ro

The European Commission has asked the Romanian authorities to apply financial corrections for the European funds which are being investigated by the European Anti-Fraud Office OLAF in the case of Tel Drum, and Romania has accepted these corrections, a spokesman for the EU executive has told HotNews.ro.

HotNews.ro asked the European Commission Regional Policy Directorate, headed by the social-democrat commissioner, Corina Cretu, what steps they took after in 2016 OLAF has recommended that they should recover certain amounts of European funds that are the subject of a criminal investigation initiated by the National Anti-Corruption Directorate (DNA) in Bucharest, involving PSD leader Liviu Dragnea and Tel Drum company.

The Commission received the recommendations of OLAF on the cases you mentioned in 2016. According to these recommendations, the Commission services have asked Romania to make the necessary adjustments to ensure that the EU budget is not affected. Romania has agreed to apply these corrections. We have a robust anti-fraud system in close cooperation with the Member States. This case shows that the system is working, said an EC spokesperson in their answer.
