Eurostat: Romania’s population will drop considerably in the next 50 years to 17 million in 2060
Romania’s population will drop to 19.857 million people in 2035 from 21.462 million at the beginning of the year and by 2060 it will decrease to 17.308 million, representing one of the biggest declines in the EU, the European Statistics Institute Eurostat reveals quoted by news agency Mediafax.
Therefore, Romania’s population might drop by 7.5% by 2035 compared to 2010, registering the fourth drop in the EU after Bulgaria, Latvia, Lithuania a press release of Eurostat reads. By 2060 Romania’s population might decrease to 19.4%, the fourth after Bulgaria, Latvia and Lithuania, Eurostat data reads.
In the same time, Romania’s population will be the oldest in 2060 across Europe. The weight of the older in Romania will be highest in Latvia with 36%, Romania and Poland with 35%, Bulgaria Germany and Slovakia with 33%.
