Ex-Romanian president says devastating floods in Eastern Romania caused by climate changes and irrational deforestation
Climatic changes and changes to the proprietary regime of forests are the main causes of devastating floods affecting Romania this days, ex-Romanian President Ion Iliescu, who in his youth studied hydro-energy, said on Romanian news channel Realitatea TV on Thursday.
Iliescu, who over the past several year said he was a supporter of climate change arguments, said „man intervened against nature in a brutal manner and now pays the price”
He said another cause for the floods is the extreme deforestation affecting Romania after the fall of the Communist regime in 1989.
