Former Russian dissident Alexander Solzhenitsyn dies at 89

Alexander Solzhenitsyn, one of the most famous Russian dissident in the world died on Sunday night, aged 89 after a heart failure, AFP informs quoting family members. Russian novelist and historian, Alexander Solzhenitsyn’s three volume Gulag Archipelago revealed the horrors of Russian labor camps.

He received the Nobel prize for literature in 1970 and was accused on treason in 1974 and deported to West Germany. However, he returned in Russia in 1994.
