French writer Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio wins Nobel prize for literature
The Nobel prize for literature was awarded this year to the French writer Jean-Marie Gustave Le Clézio, the Swedish Nobel Committee announced. The committee described Le Clezio as „author of new departures, poetic adventure and sensual ecstasy, explorer of a humanity beyond and below the reigning civilization”.
Born in 1940, in Nice, Le Clézio also won the Renaudot Prize. he authored more than 30 volumes and gathered 13% of the votes in a 1994 poll about the greatest living French language author.
