HotNews.ro

According to a survey carried out by the Romanian Central Bank (BNR), 50.4% of the Romanians have never saved money. The saving rate is influenced by the size of the family and there are fewer savings where the head of the family is jobless. Also, the probability of saving is reduced where a family is headed by a woman. There are differences in a survey run but Romania’s National Statistics Institute (INS).

BNR representatives presented both surveys, comparing them, to underline characters of the Romanian population saving habits. The presentation took place at the seminar „Aspects of the saving process in Romania” on Wednesday, September 9.

The INS survey refers to data collected from 2004 to 2006, while the Fund for Guaranteeing Bank Deposits survey was carried out in August 2008 using data from last year. BNR reps explained that this type of data, as well as the one included in the surveys, are the most recent and available. They are not collected frequently and, according to them, the situation did not change much.
