Herta Muller on Romania: 40% of people in power come from former secret police and protect each other

The 2009 Nobel Prize for Literature winner, Herta Muller, has reloaded criticism about Romania, a country which she says has yet to move away from communism. 40% of people now in power in Romania come from the Securitate – the communist era secret police – and are protecting each other, she was quoted by Romanian news agency NewsIn as saying at the Frankfurt Book Fair.

She spoke of a „typical post-dictatorship society loaded with corruption” and warned about the risks that communism become favored again on the background of the economic crisis.
