House of Deputies speaker threatens to close fall parliamentary session if major pressures affect Romania's national security
Romania’s House of Deputies speaker Bogdan Olteanu threatens to suspend this fall parliamentary session if deputies continue to vote the populist measures that have devastating effects on the national budget. In less than two days, parliamentarians voted articles for over 100 bills. Because mandates are due to end prior to general elections later this fall, deputies are scheduled to vote some 200 draft laws/day. HotNews.ro talked last week about the populist measures that presume massive budgetary spending.
Bogdan Olteanu declared that if he will feel major pressures that would affect Romania’s national security he would suspend the session, drawing from a constitutional article that allows him to do this. Some of the projects voted relate to supplementing the allocations for children and those sustaining single parent families.
