House of Deputies to hold extraordinary session on August 13
The Permanent Bureau in the House of Deputies approved the convoking of an extraordinary session on August 13, in order to discuss the demand made by Romania president Traian Basescu, who recently called for the exceptional gathering. The session is requested in order to have a clear answer of the House of Deputies regarding the criminal investigation against several former ministers. according to Romanian laws, the Anti-Graft Prosecution Office can open the investigation only after a positive notice of the Parliament.
Social Democrats and Conservatives voted against the extraordinary session.
The Speaker in the House of Deputies, Bogdan Olteanu, declared that the deputies will discuss both Basescu’s demand and a governmental report on the recent floods.
Senators will this week decide whether an extraordinary session should be called. The Senate spokesman, Andrei Alexandru, says that an extraordinary session could be organized in the second half of August.
