Hungary to offer Parliamentary representation to the Romanian community

HotNews.ro

The Hungarian – Romanian protocol on national minorities, signed on Tuesday night between the two parties foresees some urgent measures which would offer the Romanian community in Hungary, Parliamentary representation. However, the two parties failed to agree on the issue of Hungarian minority representation in the Romanian decentralized structures, Romanian news agency NewsIn informs.

The agreement was signed by Romanian strategic affairs state secretary Bogdan Aurescu and his Hungarian counterpart on minority issues Ferenc Gemesi. The document contains a series of important new rights for Romanians in Hungary.

One of the most important is that Romanians will soon have Parliamentary representation in Hungary. Despite open and constructive talks, the two parties failed to reach an agreement on all issues, like the representation of Hungarian minorities in Romanian decentralized structures. Another point of disagreement was the bilingual name tags at Babes Bolyai University in Cluj, Central Romania where there is a strong Hungarian community.
