Labor minister confirms rumor that government might freeze 50% increase of teachers wages

Labor minister Mariana Campeanu declared for Romanian news agency NewsIn on Sunday that before the next governmental session the ministers plan to submit an emergency ordinance to freeze the implementation of the recently promulgated law regarding the 50% increase of teachers’ wages. She declared that the salary boosts were not included in the 2009 budget.
On Saturday, Defense minister Teodor Melescanu declared that the government did not plan to judicially modify the recent law, but most ministers planned to propose an emergency ordinance. Melescanu declared that no official decision was taken.
Melescanu added that the ministers intend to meet in order to take a final decision on the case, considering the existent legal framework.
