Mar Negro, the movie about a Romanian nurse, receives formal recognition at Locarno
Mar Negro, Federico Bondi’s debut movie, prezented at the Locarno Festival obtained on Saturday night three prizes – the Oecumenical Jury Prize, the Best Actress prize for Ilaria Occhini and the Youth Jury Prize.
Inspired by his grandmother’s story, who build a strong relationship with a Romanian girl employed for house chores, Bondi managed to create a humane and warm movie that can redefine the relationship between Romanians and Italians.
Dorotheea Petre is playing the role of Maria, the Romanian girl while other important Romanian actors like Vlad Ivanov and Maia Morgenstern are acting in the movie.
Mar Negro will enter the Romanian market on November. The three prizes obtained by the movie were the first to be obtained by a movie with Romanian actors even though there were several other short Romanian movies present in the competition.
