Mini-laptops will still sell, but not enough to save the PC market
The small-sized laptop sales will double this year, but this will not be enough to compensate the fast decrease of sales in classic laptops and desktops, IDC officials said on Thursday. Although the global sales of PCs increased 10%, up to some 300 million units, the last quarter of the year was a disaster, marking the first market decrease in seven years.
The stars on the mini-laptops market are the Asus Eee and Acer Aspire netbooks.
The netbooks sales increase will also be fueled by the mobile operators, which started to include it as part of their subscription packages.
