New anti-government protests announced in Bucharest, other Romanian cities on Saturday

HotNews.ro

A series of protests against current government policies have been announced for Saturday evening in Bucharest and 14 other cities in Romania and abroad. The demonstrations challenge attempts to change the leadership of the main anti-graft prosecutor office, the DNA, but also against moves of the governing Social Democratic Party (PSD) to support changes to the Constitution to limit the rights of minority groups.

The protests have been announced on Facebook and are organised by several civic communities in Bucharest and other cities, in Romania and in the Diaspora.

According to organisers, the governing PSD-Alde coalition „has failed to fulfill its promises during the electoral campaign and had two other priorities: to save its VIPs facing criminal cases and to install a regime in Romania where the force of law and democracy are crushed under the force of political institutions”.

Protests have been announced in Bucharest, Timisoara, Satu Mare, Cluj Napoca, Targu Mures, Iasi, Ploiesti, Constanta, Galati, Brasov, Craiova, Alba Iulia, Arad, Zalau, Sighetul Marmatiei, but also in Munich, Dublin, Cardiff, Amsterdam, Reykjavik and Vienna.
