NGOs find 130 "stained" candidates on electoral lists
Two non-governmental organizations, the Pro-Democratia Association and the Press Monitoring Agency, along with the Romanian Center for Investigative Journalism, put up a list of 130 names of candidates, all running in colleges in the Western half of Romania, who don’t correspond to the integrity criteria used in 2004 by the Coalition for a Clean Parliament.
The 130 candidates are accused of changing political parties to follow their own interest, of collaborating with the Communist political police, Securitate, of conflict of interests or on insufficient justification for their wealth.
The list include several important names of parliamentarians currently in office, former ministers or top local administration figures.
Cristian Parvulescu, head of Pro Democratia, says that several people on the list already threatened to sue the NGOs.
