Nobody should be above the law, US Embassy says following Romanian Parliament vote preventing corruption inquiry into prominent deputy
Parliamentary immunity should not be used to defend someone from taking responsibility for his actions and nobody should be above the law, US Embassy to Bucharest says in an answer to news agency Agerpres, following a controversial vote in the Romanian Parliament on Tuesday.
The statement came as the House of Deputies rejected a request by anti-graft prosecuting body, the DNA, to allow a criminal inquiry against deputy Rovana Plumb. A former member of the Social Democratic Party-led government, she is a suspect in a major corruption case regarding the transfer of property of a Danube island, which according to investigative media reports benefited PSD leader Liviu Dragnea.
Rovana Plumb is seen as a key figure in the „Belina” corruption case.
