Penal Code modifications – a way out for high corrupt officials
Several Romanian NGOs disapprove of several changes recently brought to the Romanian criminal law which they say are a way out for high-profile officials investigated for corruption. They say that the move is clearly intended to strengthen the methods of protection for top officials involved in corruption cases.
Representatives of NGOs including the Initiative for a Clean Judiciary and the Pro Democratia Association argue that they support the law but they cannot accept the diminished attributions and competences of the prosecutors.
