PepsiAmericas inaugurated the plant near Bucharest after an 85 million dollars investment

PepsiAmericas, one of the most important sodas producers worldwide, inaugurated a plant in Dragomiresti, Ilfov county (South East), after having previously invested 85 million dollars. This is the first phase of the project, which will be finalised by 2011, when PepsiAmericas will have invested a total of 150 million dollars.

„This is the second biggest Pepsi plant in Europe. We still have a step to go to call it the biggest”, PepsiAmericas Romania president Mike Holmes declared. The first phase consisted in building the 30.000 square meters building on an 80.000 sqm land owned by the company. Plus, there was a bottling line installed and a tea production started.

When finished, the plant will have six lines of production and a production capacity of 65 million boxes of sodas annually, compared with 15 million boxes, the current production. The plant in Dragomiresti presently employs 70 staff, with their number planned to increase to 300. The unit will produce Pepsi, Lipton and Prigat for the Romanian market.

PepsiAmericas has two other more production units: one in Covasna (Central-East) – where mineral water is bottled – and one in Bucharest. In May this year, PepsiAmericas finalised a 10-million dollars investment in the plant in Covasna. In 2007, PepsiAmericas took over Quadrant Amroq Beverages (QAB), the authorised bottler and distributor for Pepsi, Pepsi Max, Pepsi Light, Mountain Dew, Mirinda, 7up, Prigat, Lipton Ice Tea, Gatorade and Roua Muntilor in Romania and the Republic of Moldova.

The main sodas companies on the Romanian market are PepsiAmericas, Coca-Cola, European Drinks and Romaqua.
