PM Emil Boc proposes suspension of strikes during presidential elections campaign
Romanian PM Emil Boc proposed a moratorium to trade and employers unions on Thursday to suspend strikes for the period of the campaign for presidential elections due later this autumn.
He said after talks with trade and employers unions today that given the current economic crisis and the upcoming electoral campaign, due to start on October 22, he offered a „form of responsibility” in the form of a moratorium to halt strikes until December 6.
He said the measure was aimed at defending the „national interest of the country”.
And he said he offered social partners to continue negotiations on several issues including the minimum salary, a reform of the pensions system and the 2010 state budget.
