Poll: Democrat Liberals on top of voter preferences, Theodor Stolojan preferred for prime minister
The Democrat Liberals (PD-L) are first in voter preferences with 39%, followed by the Social Democrats (PSD) with 25%) and the governing Liberals (PNL) with 20%, according to a new poll by Insomar published on Sunday and quoted by Romanian news channel Realitatea TV. The poll comes as Romania prepares for general elections later this fall.
The study shows that most small parties, including the far-right Greater Romania Party (PRM), the Hungarian Democrats (UDMR), the Conservative Party (PC) and the New Generation Party (PNG) would fall short from entering Parliament should elections take place next week,
PD-L representative Theodor Stolojan would be favorite for prime minister with 41%, followed by PSD leader Mircea Geoana (33%) and Liberal PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu (26%), according to the poll. All three said they would run for the seat of PM should their party win the elections.
In the case of a governing alliance, 34% of respondents would see a government formed of PD-L and PNL.
